The initial idea for this painting was a woman sitting by a window. The window symbolizes dreams and freedom for me. I was also certain that I wanted to paint tropical plants. I love the tropics. I could live on an island and work there. I adore the scent of the tropics, the humidity, and the density of the air. I must have lived in such a place in a previous life :-)

Anyway – this woman sits there alone. We see that she is very melancholic. She longs for something deeply. For something that is out there, beyond the window. But she sits with her back to it. She doesn't want to turn toward it. She chooses to stay in the room, in her comfort zone. Surrounded by dogs that give her solace and the love she needs.
